BENEFITS
A new representative of a genus brought to prominence by Alan Bloom, most notably
with his highly popular 'Lucifer'. 'Irish Sunset' features a lush growth of
elegant, sword-shaped leaves of rich green. From amidst the foliage rise graceful,
yet sturdy, arching flower spikes.
Not only a fine garden plant, Crocosmia also serves
as a prized cut flower with long vase life. For an
exotic look, gardeners can wait to cut the stems
until after the flowers have dropped and the decorative
seed pods have formed.
BLOOM SEASON & HABIT
Red-tipped yellow buds erupt from purple sheaths,
opening to sprays of splendid pendulous trumpets
of vivid yellow and glowing orange red from July
into August.
LOCATION
Full Sun. USDA Hardiness Zones 7 to 9; AHS Heat Zones
9 to 6. See our Growing
Zones page to reference growing zones in your
area.
SIZE
26" to 30" tall by 6" wide. Use 6 plants per square yard.
CULTURE
Happiest in well-drained soil and adequate but not
abundant moisture. All growth emanates from corms,
which may be lifted and divided every few years
as needed. If clumps are allowed to become overcrowded,
flower production diminishes sharply. Also
