BENEFITS
Reliable garden performer providing a symphony of lovely lilac flowers. Named for Alan Bloom’s favorite composer.

BLOOM SEASON & HABIT
Lilac flowers from midsummer to early fall. Sturdy foliage on stiff, erect stems.

LOCATION
Full sun. USDA Hardiness Zones 4 to 8; AHS Heat Zones 9 to 4. See our Growing Zones page to reference growing zones in your area.

USE
Superb cut flower for back of border plantings. Nice in mass plantings. Fragrant. Attracts butterflies.

SIZE
36” tall by 24” wide. Use 3 to 4 plants per square yard.

CULTURE
Best in rich, well-drained acidic soils. Plant in an area of the garden which has good air movement. Keep well-watered and fertilized in summer for best flowering. Remove faded flower heads to extend blooming. Divide in spring or fall every 3 to 4 years. Also see our General Planting Tips for more information.
